Target Customers & Buyer Insights

Different Cars, Different Customers

You can expect Regal customers to be somewhat younger

and slightly less affluent than your LaCrosse customers.

Who They Are

Regal customers are dominated by baby boomers with

high education and above-average incomes. They are

multi-cultural, cosmopolitan, tolerant, progressive and

pride themselves on making smart, discerning choices.

They regularly consult unbiased third-party sources

before making a purchase.

What They Want

They want a car they perceive to be premium. However,

they are not necessarily interested in a traditional luxury

car; they want premium, but not a high luxury-brand

price. They are interested in new technologies and music

is important to them. And while they are import-oriented,

they are also open-minded.

Regal will draw customers from both the midsize

sedan and compact luxury segments. The top five

reasons for purchase in both of those important market

segments are:

Midsize Car

Reasons for Purchase

1. Dependable/reliable

2. Value for the money

3. Vehicle quality

4. Vehicle price

5. Fuel economy

Compact Luxury

Reasons for Purchase

1. Vehicle quality

2. Exterior styling

3. Fun to drive

How to Use this Manual

Many people read their owner’s manual from beginning

to end when they first receive their new vehicle. If

you do this, it will help you learn about the features

and controls for your vehicle. In this manual, you’ll

find that pictures and words work together to explain

things quickly.

Index

A good place to look for what you need is the Index in

back of the manual. It’s an alphabetical list of what’s in

the manual, and the page number where you’ll find it.

Safety Warnings and Symbols

You will find a number of safety cautions in this book.

We use a box and the word CAUTION to tell you

about things that could hurt you if you were to ignore

the warning.

CAUTION:

These mean there is something that could hurt

you or other people.

In the caution area, we tell you what the hazard is. Then

we tell you what to do to help avoid or reduce the

hazard. Please read these cautions. If you don’t, you or

others could be hurt.

You will also find a circle

with a slash through it in

this book. This safety

symbol means “Don’t,”

“Don’t do this” or “Don’t

let this happen.”

yellowblue

iv

Vehicle Damage Warnings

Also, in this book you will find these notices:

NOTICE:

These mean there is something that could

damage your vehicle.

In the notice area, we tell you about something that can

damage your vehicle. Many times, this damage would

not be covered by your warranty, and it could be

costly. But the notice will tell you what to do to help

avoid the damage.

When you read other manuals, you might see

CAUTION and NOTICE warnings in different

colors or in different words.

You’ll also see warning labels on your vehicle. They use

the same words, CAUTION or NOTICE.

Download Buick Regal GS Cranks 270 HP and 295 Lb Ft of Torque

Buick Regal GS Cranks 270 HP and 295 Lb-Ft of Torque Exclusive Ecotec 2.0L turbocharged engine delivers more launch force than imports

OSHAWA – The 2012 Buick Regal GS, which arrives at dealerships this fall, has been SAE-certified to deliver 270 horsepower (201kW) and 295 lb.-ft. of torque (400Nm) for an estimated 0-96 km/h performance of 6.7 seconds. Regal GS will be built at GM’s award-winning Oshawa Assembly Plant.

Regal GS’s exclusive Ecotec 2.0L direct-injected turbocharged four-cylinder engine delivers more torque than Acura TSX V-6, Audi A4 S line Sport, Lexus IS 250 and Volvo S60 T5. Torque is the twisting force that gets a vehicle moving and what the driver feels when accelerating.

“The Regal GS 2.0L turbo delivers the highest specific output of any production engine GM has ever offered, and at 135 hp per litre is the most power dense engine ever certified by SAE,” said Mike Anderson, Ecotec global chief engineer and program manager. “We’ve been combining direct injection and variable valve timing with boosted engines since 2006, and there’s no question the Regal GS turbo has the responsiveness and acceleration of some V-6s, while delivering the fuel efficiency you’d expect of a four-cylinder.”

Ecotec 2.0L turbo highlights include direct injection, continuously variable valve timing, forged steel crankshaft, twin scroll design turbocharger and an efficient intercooler system. The peak torque of 295 lb-ft is achieved at a relatively low 2400 rpm. There is 95 per cent of peak torque available between 2300 and 4900 rpm.

The GS’s engine is mated to a standard six-speed manual transmission, and gets an estimated fuel consumption rating of 7.1L/100km on the highway. A six-speed automatic transmission will be available later. The entire GS powertrain is covered by a five-year, 160,000-kilometrewarranty.

Further reinforcing Regal GS’s performance appeal is its Interactive Drive Control System chassis technology, which delivers enhanced vehicle stability. The driver selects among three operating modes that change the suspension settings, and steering sensitivity through the variable-effort steering system. “GS” mode optimizes the car for dynamic driving, tightening the suspension and steering response. “Standard,” or the default mode, is the setting for all-around use. “Sport” mode provides a level of performance between standard and GS modes.

Regal GS also features a four-wheel-independent suspension, with a unique High Performance Strut (HiPerStrut) front suspension design. The HiPerStrut system helps reduce torque steer and maintain negative camber during cornering to keep the all-important tire contact patch on the pavement. The driver experiences improved grip and increased cornering power, along with crisper handling, steering precision and feedback.

The four-link independent rear suspension is designed to minimize unwanted toe and camber effects during spirited driving maneuvers, enhancing vehicle stability and tire grip. Both front and

rear dampers incorporate active Computer Damping Control, continuously changing damper characteristics in real time to maintain optimal vehicle ride comfort over varying road surfaces and profiles. More aggressive, performance-oriented damping characteristics can also be selected by the driver when choosing “Sport” or “GS” mode.

Braking power comes from a large diameter four-wheel disc brake system featuring big, four-piston Brembo front calipers for optimal feel and modulation. A standard, four-channel anti-lock brake system is tuned to reduce stopping distances over varied road surfaces and conditions. The Regal GS also features standard StabiliTrak electronic stability control with integrated, full-speed traction control.

The GS cuts a sportier stance, too, with a lower ride height than other Regal models and aggressive 19-inch, 5-Twin Spoke alloy wheels and all-season tires (20-inch, 5-Twin Spoke polished alloy wheels with performance tires are optional).

By BARBARA FULENWIDER

Looks aren’t everything but

they sure help sell cars and the

Buick Regal has them.

The Regal sedan’s modern,

sleek exterior is a sweeping

silhouette with the proportions

of a coupe that make it appear

to be in motion. Along with its

good looks, General Motors

engineers added a European

inspired ride and handling.

The results are a good looking

sedan with a fi rm, Europeantuned

chassis that rivals some

of the best import sport sedans

in the segment.

New for 2011 is a driverselectable

interactive drive

control system, available with

2.0- liter turbocharged engine,

leather and heated front seats,

XM Satellite Radio, USB port,

MP3 auxiliary jack, Bluetooth

for phone and OnStar.

The four-door Buick Regal

CXL sedan is powered by

a 2.4-liter dual overhead cam

four-cylinder engine mated to

a six-speed automatic transmission.

The four makes 182 horsepower

and 172 lb.-ft. torque

and gets a highly respectable

19/30 miles to the gallon in

city/highway driving.

The Buick Regal rides on

18-inch wheels, which are also

new standard equipment for

2011, seats four adults comfortably

and has 14.25 cubic

feet of trunk space.

The Regal is the next chapter

in Buick’s portfolio expansion

which now includes a

modern sport sedan. The new

Regal takes on competitors

such as the Acura TSX and

Volvo S60.

For 2011, Regal is offered in

premium CXL trim only, with

additional trim levels to be offered

in the 2012 model year.

The well-equipped Regal CXL

includes the following as standard

or available equipment:

Standard 2.4L direct injected

engine, available 2.0-liter

turbocharged and direct injected

engine rated at an estimated

220 horsepower, sixspeed

automatic transmission

with driver shifting control,

six speed manual transmission

available with turbocharged

engine, MacPherson strut

front suspension and four-link

independent rear suspension,

four-wheel disc brakes with

four-channel anti-lock braking

system.

Also, brake assist and electronic

parking brake, stability

control system and fullfunction

traction control are

standard, standard dual-stage

frontal air bags, side-curtain

air bags and pedal-release system;

rear-seat thorax air bags

available, available navigation

system, harman kardon sound

system, internal fl ash drive

(1GB), hard drive with 10GB

for music and USB port and

19-inch alloy wheels standard

with interactive drive control.

The car’s spirit is conveyed

in sleek, sculpted body-side detail

and aggressive headlamps

that further suggest motion.

At the rear, an abbreviated

deck and tucked-in body panels

are the hallmarks of a contemporary

sport sedan, with bold

taillamps and their intricate

lighting elements reinforcing

Regal’s attention to detail.

The sweeping design motif

carries over to the interior,

where the side panels fl ow

uninterrupted into the instrument

panel. Features such as a

thick-rimmed, leather-wrapped

steering wheel and fi rm, highly

bolstered and leather-covered

seats also support the sportoriented

driving experience.

With all standard equipment

the Buick Regal retails for

$26,245. With optional equipment

that included the comfort

and convenience package and

a power sunroof the total came

to $28,090.

Buick engineers and designers

have ditched the brand’s

yesteryear look, put more fun

into driving a Buick and made

it a top value.

Buick was the biggest sales

gainer from 2009 to 2010 and

that says everything.

Buick went from having

sold 72,389 vehicles in 2009 to

selling almost twice that number

in 2010 -- 114,000 for a 57

percent increase.General Motors

in general is cranking.

The company’s Cadillac

and GMC divisions came in

second and fourth as biggest

sales gainers this year. A total

of 73,024 Cadillacs were sold

in 2009 and 105,013 in 2010.

GMC sold 176,423 vehicles in

2009 and 230,502 this year.

Download 2011 Buick Regal CXL Turbo Sedan

Buick has wrapped the old Regal in a

new sports wardrobe, yet maintained

its luxury essence.

To amplify the Regal’s sports-injected

performance even further,

Buick created Regal CXL Turbo and

gave it a 2.0 L ECOTEC DOHC variable

valve timing intercooled turbocharged

engine with direct cylinder

fuel injection accompanied by 220 hp

and 258 lb-ft of torque. Its dual-scroll

turbo technology generates nearly instantaneous

acceleration: 0-60 in 7.0

seconds.

Let me share with you how a Buick

engineer explained the turbo engine

to me.

“The turbo combines up to 20 psi

of potent boost through an intercooler

to help pack the cylinders with cool

air. Intake temperature is reduced by

nearly 212 degrees Fahrenheit to enhance

performance because cooler air

is denser for optimal combustion.

“Then, direct fuel injection atomizes

the fuel directly into the combustion

chamber to further cool the

charge and enable a higher compression

ratio.

“Specifically designed intake ports

generate precise airflow to produce a

thorough burn of the air/fuel mixture.

This helps Regal produce the power

of a V6 from only four cylinders.”

Admittedly, it takes a little more

than a scant remembrance from a

college science class to help me follow

the aforementioned explanation completely.

But here is what I do know.

You have a racing-inspired engine

on performance enhancers. Turbine

blades are spinning thousands of

rpms. And the smile on your face

expands nearly as fast, extending

from ear to ear.

This sports sedan provides great

fuel economy with 18 mpg in the city

and 28 mpg on the highway, slightly

better fuel mileage than the nonturbo

model.

Buick engineers have developed

something called an Interactive Drive

Control System. This feature offers

you two selectable models (Sport and

Tour) that adjust the suspension,

steering, throttle, transmission, and

stability systems in real time to personalize

your driving experience.

It continually adjusts handling,

while four-channel antilock, traction

control, and StabiliTrak Stability Control

speak to each other to optimize

the Regal’s response to every inch of

the road.

Windy or straight-arrow roads,

or back stretches that lead into the

horizon, they are no match for the

Regal. Just choose the Tour mode and

the system adjusts from a sports or

speed-sensitive steering response to a

setting that enhances the Regal’s ride

comfort, making it ideal for relaxed

long-distance cruising.

A leather-wrapped steering wheel,

power windows with driver and frontpassenger

express up/down, and

power locks with lock protection are

some of the standard features. Driver

and front-passenger seat with power

eight-way seat adjuster and power

four-way lumbar adjuster make for

a comfortable ride.

Dual-zone climate-control air conditioning

and a seven-speaker sound

system with AM/FM stereo radio

and CD player are among the topnotch

interior features that provide

an enchanting and pleasurable in-cab

atmosphere.

Buick has been making fine

automotive products for a number

of years. While the auto industry

has stalled until recently in the U.S.,

Buick has continued to sell well,

making it a world leader. In fact,

Buick is the No. 1 car sold in China,

allowing GM to remain one of

that country’s largest automaker.

While other GM brands like Pontiac

and Oldsmobile have been laid

to rest, Buick has had a domestic

resurgence.

Buick delivered a Regal that was

born in Europe and bred on the Autobahn.

Now the U.S. has that same

quality car.

The standard vehicle price is

$28,745. The vehicle I drove had additional

features like a power sunroof,

high-intensity discharge headlamps,

and a premium speaker system

which are all part of the T0 6 option

that added an additional $3,600 to

the total cost.

Buick Regal Speedometer Recalibrator Controller Installation

98-05_Regal_Mini-SRC_Install_Instructions_Rev_-.doc, Revision -

Figure 1

The Mini-SRC (Speedometer Recalibration Controller) is an incredibly accurate “tuned loop”

speedometer recalibration controller. It is designed to allow adjustments to speedometer reading from

10 to 255% in 1% increments. This allows the operator to adjust for tire size, gears, or just to calibrate

the stock speedometer reading. The SRC checks switch settings on power up. Changes to the

switches will not result in a % change until the unit is powered down and then back up again.

Tools Needed:

1. Pliers

2. Wire Cutters

Installation:

1. Locate the C101 In-Line IP Connector at the left rear of the engine compartment.

See Figure 2.

2. Identify the Dark Green w/ White Stripe wire located in Pin G on this connector

and connect the SCR’s signal wires to this speed signal wire. Refer to Figure 3.

2.1. Cut the Dark Green w/ White Stripe wire on the female connector, which is the

end towards the front of the vehicle. (This is the speed signal wire.)

2.2. Using included inline wire splices, connect the SRC’s White wire to the Dark

Green w/ White Stripe speed signal wire going INTO the C101 connector and

running to the instrument panel inside the vehicle and to the speedometer.

(If you’ve never used inline wire splices before, they connect easily. Please visit Easy Performance Products and view the

color illustrated instructions found under Tech Info > Using Wire Splice.)

2.3. Splice the SRC’s Green wire to the other half of the Dark Green w/ White Stripe speed signal wire. This end goes to the PCM.

3. Identify the Cruise Control Module (CCM) and its connector. Identify the Brown wire in Pin F and the Black wire in Pin E. See

Figure 4.

3.1. Using inline wire splices, connect the SRC’s Red (power) wire to the Brown wire in Pin F on the CCM connector. This Brown

wire remains connected to the CCM and the SRC’s Red wire just taps off of it for power.

3.2. Using inline wire splices, connect the SRC’s Black (ground) wire to the Black wire in Pin E on the CCM connector. This Black

wire remains connected to the CCM and the SRC’s Black wire just taps off of it for ground.

4. Secure the SCR Module box as needed.

5. This completes the SRC installation.

IMPORTANT: We recommend the SRC be set to 100% before making any adjustments. The unit will initially have a setting of

100% from the factory.

Adjusting SRC Settings:

The SRC settings are changed by remove the two screws holding the SRC module cover on, removing the cover and then modifying

the settings on the DIP Switch block, as shown in Figure 1. Each DIP Switch position represents a value that is summed up if that

switch position is in the ‘ON’ position. A total setting value is obtained by adding up all the switch position values for all switch

positions that are in the ‘ON’ position. For example, if DIP Switch positions #2, #3 and #5 were in the ‘ON’ position and all others

were in the ‘OFF’ position, then a total setting of 104% (64 + 32 + 8) would be set

Example #1 70% Setting (reduces reading by 30%)

Turn switch 2 on +64%

Turn switch 6 on +4%

Turn switch 7 on +2%

Results = 64 + 4 + 2 = 70%

Example #2 152% Setting (increases reading by 52%)

Turn switch 1 on +128%

Turn switch 4 on +16%

Turn switch 5 on +8%

Results = 128 + 16 + 8 = 152%

A 100% setting would cause no change to the speedometer reading. For example, an input of 50mph would have an output of

50mph. This is default factory setting, if not changed. A setting of110% would increase speedometer reading by 10%. A setting of

70% would decrease speedometer reading 30%.

NOTE: All switches in the ‘ON’ position would make a setting of 255%. If all switches were in the ‘OFF’ position, then the setting

would be 0% and the SRC would not output any speed frequency. To eliminate these extremes that can be easily set by accident, a

failsafe is programmed into the SCR module that defaults to 100% (no change) in the event that a 0 or 255% setting is selected.

2011 Buick Regal

Come the summer of 2010, Buick will have a two-pronged strategy in the midsize car market.

The Buick LaCrosse, aimed at the luxurious Lexus ES 350, is already on sale. Next up is the

2011 Buick Regal, a sports sedan meant to compete with the Acura TSX, Mazda6, Volkswagen

Passat and Volvo S60.

Regal and LaCrosse share platforms, both based on GM's global midsize car architecture,

which also hosts the award-winning Opel Insignia.

While the LaCrosse is tuned for comfort, the Regal will be sportier, with an available adjustable

suspension and European tuned handling.

The Regal went on sale in China in December 2008. In the U.S., it will initially be offered in only

one trim level, the well-appointed CXL. Additional models will be added for the 2012 model year.

The Buick Regal CXL will offer two engines featuring direct injection, a 182-horsepower 2.4-liter

four cylinder and a 220-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four. The 2.4 will be available at launch and

the turbo will come later in the summer. Both engines will be offered with a six-speed automatic

transmission with manual shift capability. A six-speed manual will become available when the

turbo debuts. With the automatic transmission, the 2.4 will deliver 20 mpg city and 30 mpg

highway and the turbo will be rated at 18/29 mpg.

Turbocharged Regals will be offered with an Interactive Driver Control System (IDCS) with

Normal, Tour and Sport settings. In addition to adjusting the shocks for a smoother or firmer

ride, IDCS will adjust steering effort, throttle response, and automatic transmission shift points.

Models with IDCS will also come with 19-inch wheels instead of the standard 18-inch wheels.

Inside, the Regal CXL will build on the richer interiors of recent Buicks, notably the Enclave and

LaCrosse. It will come standard with leather upholstery, a multi-function controller for the

entertainment features, ice-blue instrument lighting, and three trim options, satin metallic, piano

black or Kibo wood. Buick says the 12-way power adjustable driver's seat will be generously

bolstered to provide support during aggressive driving. Other standard features will consist of

Bluetooth hands-free cell phone connectivity, heated front seats, XM satellite radio, and OnStar

assistance. Available features will include a navigation system, a Harmon Kardon sound

system, a USB port, and a 10-gigabyte hard drive to hold music files.

Buick hasn't announced pricing, but the Regal CXL should start at around $25,000 with wellequipped

turbo versions ranging up to or past $30,000.

Seats and Seat Controls

This section tells you how to adjust the seats and

explains the reclining seatbacks and head restraints.

2-Way Manual Front Seats

CAUTION:

You can lose control of the vehicle if you try to

adjust a manual driver’s seat while the vehicle is

moving. The sudden movement could startle and

confuse you, or make you push a pedal when you

don’t want to. Adjust the driver’s seat only when

the vehicle is not moving.

Lift the bar located under the front of the driver’s and

the passenger’s seat. This will unlock the seat. Slide the

seat to where you want it and release the bar. Try to

move the seat with your body to be sure the seat is

locked into place.

1-3

6-Way Power Seats (If Equipped)

The driver’s switch is

located on the left side of

the driver’s seat cushion.

The passenger’s switch is

located on the right side

of the passenger’s

seat cushion.

To move the seat forward or rearward, push the switch

forward or rearward. To raise or lower the entire seat,

push the switch up or down. To raise or lower the front

portion of your seat, push the front of the switch up or

down. To raise or lower the rear portion of your seat,

push the rear of the switch up or down.

Heated Seats (If Equipped)

If your vehicle is equipped with heated seats, the

driver’s side and passenger’s side three-position

switches are located on the center console, just behind

your automatic transaxle shift lever. Press LO to warm

the seat at a lower temperature. Press HI to warm the

seat at a higher temperature. To turn this feature off,

return the switch to its center position. The button

directly in the middle of the heated seat switches is used

for traction control. (See “Traction Control System” in

the Index.)

1-4

Reclining Front Seatbacks

Lift the lever to release the seatback, then move the

seatback to where you want it. Release the lever to lock

the seatback in place. Pull up on the lever without pushing

on the seatback and the seatback will move forward.

But don’t have a seatback reclined if your vehicle is moving.

1-5

CAUTION:

Sitting in a reclined position when your vehicle is

in motion can be dangerous. Even if you buckle

up, your safety belts can’t do their job when

you’re reclined like this.

The shoulder belt can’t do its job because it

won’t be against your body. Instead, it will be in

front of you. In a crash you could go into it,

receiving neck or other injuries.

The lap belt can’t do its job either. In a crash the

belt could go up over your abdomen. The belt

forces would be there, not at your pelvic bones.

This could cause serious internal injuries.

For proper protection when the vehicle is in

motion, have the seatback upright. Then sit well

back in the seat and wear your safety belt properly.

Head Restraints

Slide the head restraint up or down so that the top of the

restraint is closest to the top of your ears. This position

reduces the chance of a neck injury in a crash.

customize the driving experience by changing the suspension settings and steering sensitivity

between three modes: standard, sport and GS.

“Built on the performance foundation of the Regal, the Regal GS was designed as an even

sportier expression of responsive performance and style,” said John Schwegman, vice president

of Buick marketing. “The driving experience is powerful and spirited; and the GS represents the

next entry in Buick’s product renaissance.”

The Regal GS will be unveiled this evening at a consumer event in Miami. It goes on sale in the

second half of 2011. Pricing has not yet been announced.

Product highlights include:

􀁸 Exclusive Ecotec 2.0L turbocharged and intercooled engine rated at an estimated 255

horsepower (190 kW) and 295 lb-ft of torque (400 Nm)

accented in a satin-metallic finish. The rear fascia has a pair of integrated, satin-metallic

trapezoidal exhaust outlets. Rocker panel extensions and an integrated rear spoiler are also

woven into the design. The GS cuts a sportier stance, too, with a slightly lower ride height than

other models and aggressive 19-inch, 5-Twin Spoke alloy wheels and all-season tires (20-inch, 5-

Twin Spoke polished alloy wheels with performance tires are optional).

Inside is a racing-inspired, flat-bottom sport steering wheel and metal sport pedals, along with
